Canada Branch of FARDA
Welcome to Friends of Africa Relief and Development Agency Canada Inc. (or
FARDA Canada Inc.), a non-profit human service agency working and partnering
with FARDA Sierra Leone in the latter’s efforts to providing support
for children, youth, and adults in difficult circumstances in Sierra Leone,
West Africa. We conduct our activities in Sierra Leone through FARDA Sierra
Leone.
FARDA Canada Inc.’s programs and activities are conducted without purpose
of gain for the organization’s members, and any and all profits shall
be used solely to promote the organization’s aims and objectives. FARDA
Canada Inc. has charity status with the Charities Directorate of the Canada
Customs and Revenue Agency. This makes donations to FARDA Canada Inc. by Canadian
Individuals tax-deductible to the extent permitted by Canadian law.
FARDA Canada was founded on August 1, 2004 in Winnipeg, Manitoba Province,
Canada. FARDA Canada Inc. is registered with the Manitoba Companies Office
(BN 85082 2545 MC 0001). The organization’s programs and activities shall
be conducted with no reason of gain for its members, and any and all profits
shall be used solely to promote the organization’s aims and objectives.
Our goal at FARDA Canada is to support FARDA Sierra Leone in its efforts to
improve the socio-economic standards of the survivors of the 11-year bloody
civil war from which tiny West African state is slowly recovering. We hope
to accomplish this goal by focusing on one aspect of FARDA's objectives, namely
providing for and supporting girls in the rural areas of the country so that
these girls can gain formal as well as informal education.
Current Projects :
Since its inception in August 2004, FARDA Canada Inc. has successfully held
several awareness and fundraising activities in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Aside from
usual general meetings, other meetings such as one on April 23, 2005 (at the
Robert Stein Community Center, 980 Palmerston Avenue, Winnipeg) and May 28,
2005 were both held to create awareness of the existence of FARDA Canada Inc.
in Winnipeg as well as of the plight of children in Sierra Leonean. Below are
some of the programs that FARDA Canada is helping/supporting FARDA Sierra Leone
to implement.
